About us
ElectricalCharts is an independent reference site for electricians, estimators, maintenance techs and DIYers who need a wire, conduit or fastener number fast — with the working shown.
Why this site exists
Most trade reference material online is a scanned PDF, a manufacturer sales page or a forum post with no stated assumptions. If you are sizing a conductor for a 180 ft run, a static image of a table does not tell you whether your voltage drop is acceptable, and it certainly does not tell you what temperature correction was assumed.
ElectricalCharts rebuilds that reference layer as interactive, formula-driven tools. Every result prints the inputs, the formula and the assumptions alongside the number, so you can check the arithmetic instead of trusting a screenshot.
Who builds it
ElectricalCharts is a small independent publisher, not a manufacturer or a distributor. We do not sell wire, conduit, fittings or tools, and no brand pays for placement in a chart or a calculated result. That independence is the point: the recommended conductor size is whatever the physics and the stated assumptions produce.
Site running costs are covered by display advertising and clearly labelled affiliate links. See our affiliate disclosure for the full details.
How the numbers are produced
Dimensional values — conductor diameters, circular mil areas, conduit internal areas, rebar dimensions, thread pitches, hex sizes — come from public dimensional standards. Everything else is computed live from a formula we publish on the page.
We deliberately do not reproduce copyrighted code tables. Instead we model the underlying relationships and label every row as a published standard or a formula estimate. The full breakdown is in our methodology.
Safety and editorial stance
Electrical work is life-safety work. Everything here is an engineering estimate for planning, study and cross-checking — never a substitute for the code edition enforced in your jurisdiction, the equipment listing, or a licensed electrician's judgement. Local amendments routinely override national values.
If you find a value you believe is wrong, tell us and we will fix it or explain the assumption. Corrections go to contact@electricalcharts.com — or use the contact page.
